Approved the Draft Law on climate change and energy transition

Before 2050, or as soon as possible, Spain must achieve climate neutrality and the electricity system must be based exclusively on renewable generation sources. The Commission for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge has approved the Draft Law on climate change and energy transition, which will be sent to the Senate where it will continue its parliamentary proceedings without the need to previously go through the Plenary of Congress.

What are the minimum goals for 2030:

  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 23% compared to 1990.
  • Achieve a penetration of renewable energy sources in final energy consumption of at least 42%;
  • Achieve an electrical system with at least 74% generation from renewable energy sources, and improve energy efficiency by reducing primary energy consumption by at least 39.5% with respect to the line of base according to community regulations.

To address the energy transition, the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plans (PNIEC) and the Decarbonization Strategy to 2050 have been established.
