Catalonia gives the green light to the strategic food plan 2021-2026 that promotes sustainable food, rooted in the territory and promoters of new healthy habits

The Government of the Generalitat has approved the Strategic Food Plan of Catalonia (PEAC) 2,021-2,026 and has entrusted the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food (DARP) with the co-management and governance, as well as the promotion of the strategic lines and the initiatives and actions that comprise it.

The objective is to provide Catalonia with the necessary instrument to articulate a comprehensive, sustainable, competitive food system, deeply rooted in the country, and based on its diversity, which produces healthy, accessible and quality food.

The extraordinary and unprecedented situation generated by the pandemic has highlighted the fundamental role of the agri-food sector and has highlighted the risks, vulnerabilities and existing inequalities.

It is in this context that the PEAC stands as an instrument to transform the Catalan food system, in accordance with the Goals for Sustainable Development and the main European food, agricultural, economic and innovation policies. The effective implementation of this plan should lead to the development of 301 actions in the next 5 years.

The agri-food sector represents 14.1% of the Catalan GDP and generates 565,700 jobs, 15.5% of the Catalan occupation.
