Course on extensive livestock from August 30 to September 1 at the UIMP

The Menéndez Pelayo International University, together with the collaboration of the Tatiana Pérez de Guzmán el Bueno Foundation, have launched the call for its course ‘Extensive livestock farming as an opportunity to promote sustainable development in rural areas’, which will be held from August 30 to September 1 in person in Santander, but can also be followed online.

Livestock has been experiencing a gradual decline for decades that threatens the survival of a model of sustainable agricultural production and strong socio-cultural roots in large areas of Spanish geography. The disappearance of farms is accompanied by the abandonment of areas of forests and pastures, and their consequent scrub, increasing the risk of fires and loss of biodiversity. It is necessary to investigate the causes of this decline, to identify the most effective measures to reverse it, and above all to discuss the productive and management models of farms that ensure their profitability and continuity.

The course aims to present the latest knowledge on this reality and discuss the policies and modes of production that present a better future for this important sector.
