From June, UK check on animal health and welfare in EU livestock products

The British authorities have received a financial endowment of 16 million euros to ensure that products imported from the EU meet strict British standards for animal health and welfare. These controls will come into force this year gradually, so that from April the documentary checks of animal products for human consumption will be carried out and from July the additional identity and physical controls at the border control posts.

With this measure, the British Government intends to maintain the high level of quality of UK animal and plant products, while ensuring that operations in British ports continue to run smoothly.
