According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in the period between July 2019 and June 2020, 62.65 million kg of lamb meat were consumed; 3.13 million Kg less, than in the same period of the previous year, which represents a decrease of 5.63%. In the specific case of the Cordero Manchego PGI, in that period consumption decreased by 3.76%.
The data from the IGP of Castilla La Mancha indicate that the decrease has been less since during 2020 27,316 channels of IGP Cordero Manchego Recental have been commercialized, which is 450 less than in 2019; that is, 1.62% less.
In the records of the Fundación IGP Cordero Manchego there are currently 293 registered breeding herds (with 243 811 sheep in total), 7 fattening herds and 4 slaughter centers, where the 9 authorized marketers operate.
