Spanish meat production during 2020 totaled 7,603,932 tons, which implies a growth of 5.1%

The data advanced by the MAPA statistics service show that the result has been uneven by species. Thus, while pigs grew by 8.24% (mainly driven by Chinese demand) and the poultry sector by 0.74%, the rest of the categories (beef, goats, rabbits, horses and sheep) suffered small decreases.

On the other hand, Luis Planas, Minister of Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca has made reference to the crucial moment facing the sector due to its need to address different transitions: the energy transition, the agroecological transition, the digital transition and, most importantly, the human transition that requires individuals capable of adapting to new approaches and challenges.

He has remarked that the new CAP “is a great opportunity” for everyone and that Spain will have a sufficient budget to face these new challenges in the next decade.
