The closure of Spanish borders does not affect merchandise

The Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has agreed to reestablish the controls of the Spanish land borders while the state of alarm lasts. The initiative, as assured by the minister, is within a policy of effective coordination with the European Union and with the autonomous communities.

What are the most important measures of this border closure in the food aspect?

  • Restrictions on entry to Spain through land borders, however, will not affect the transport of goods “in order to ensure the continuity of economic activity and preserve the supply chain.”
  • The measure currently affects land borders, although the limitation of traffic in ports and airports is not ruled out.
  • Only Spanish citizens, cross-border workers, and other people will be allowed to enter “due to force majeure”.
